Close Encounter? Don't Know

based on a true story

Bright and early,

Naldo heads for Sala,

a coffee and wine shop.

New coffee to try,

glass of Malbec,

to try and lounge

at the cafe.

Naldo arrives before Sala opens.

He doesn't mind being early.

Naldo spots an

LA County Health Care Building,

an ISD meetup.

What's ISD?

Naldo heads to the net

to find out.

He gets lost in ambiguity.

It's not even 8am.

(All that matters

for this story is

ISD stands for

Internal

Service

Department.)

It appears ISD

assists in the vid tests.

Naldo spots a familiar face

in this ISD.

This face is a life-group leader

at a relatively new megachurch.

Naldo is aware he works in ISD.

When Naldo drives for Lyft,

he drops off someone

at this place where

he's seen this face.

Anyways, Naldo doesn't attempt

to say hi for two reasons:

it's a vid testing site,

the familiar face is working.

The familiar face would probably

reply with "Get lost."

Now that Sala is open,

Naldo goes inside.

He's told the Long Beach location

serves wine by the glass.

Naldo only buys a Salita,

less hot, sits

on the couch,

looking at the Malbec

he wishes to drink by the glass.

After leaving Sala, Naldo wonders if

he had a close encounter with that

familiar face's abstinence from wine?

Naldo doesn't know, but he practiced

how to see instead what’s there.

Lines borrowed from Anne Carson's "Life."
